Ski Sandia, best in the West

February 16, 2007

Not a particularly insightful article (Old Town is a tourist hangout, who knew?), but the Chicago Tribune slapped together a travel article on four metro areas in close proximity to ski areas. Albuquerque, Denver, Reno and Salt Lake City all get love.

I doubt anyone forgot Denver, Salt Lake City and Reno have skiing in their backyard, but how many folks outside of New Mexico remember Albuquerque has snow covered slopes? Sandia Peak has had a rough few years, but as of today the mountain is 100% open with a base of 60″. Not bad. Not ready to host the Winter Olympics. But not bad, either.
