Mobile TV, meet the City Council

March 5, 2007

On March 2, TIME Magazine announced Verizon Wireless will include Albuquerque among the twenty cities to receive its new mobile TV service. The service will cost between $15 to $25 (on top of a customer’s current plan, options, fees, and taxes) for 24 hour access to eight channels.

With this news three things come to mind: (1) March Madness on a cell phone could kill national productivity; (2) I wonder if I can legally drive and watch TV on my cell phone—how long before city council requires me to buy the non-existent hands-free headset for this feature?; (3) what kind of spike will I see in my cable bill once Comcast hears Verizon is charging $25 for only eight channels?
