March Madness: hops or hoops or both

March 12, 2007

I’m a little partial to the month of March. Two important cultural events (important to me, anyway) take place this month: (1) St. Patrick’s Day, and (2) March Madness. I’m Irish Catholic, so there are certain obligations I must—responsibly—uphold come the 17th. College basketball… well, I just like college basketball. What better to talk about at the watering hole this Saturday than Notre Dame’s trashing for Winthrop?—which will happen, trust me.

Now, I know I’m not the only one out there that places these events up there next to the Super Bowl New Mexico Bowl and Arbor Day. Witness, Il Vicino’s Malt Madness. According to (sure, why not?), starting today and running through March 28, customers who stop by Il Vicino’s taproom can receive two samples (presumably a house concoction) and vote on which ought to advance to the next round. I can’t find any information on the tournament on Il Vicino’s website, but I will pass along the taproom’s address: 4000 Vassar NE, (505) 830-4629.

Wow! Does the holiday season ever end?

Update: New Mexico Beer corroborates First match: IPA v. Stock Ale.
