Belen Day in Barstow

April 9, 2007

Did you know 50% to 60% of the Hispanic community in Barstow, CA trace their roots back to Belen. Apparently the trans-desert migration form Belen to Barstow began with hopes pinned to Barstow’s hot job market in the 1950’s and 60’s.

Celebrating the ties between the two towns, Barstow declared this past Saturday, April 7, Belen Day, and with the mayors from each town present, the two communities entered into a sister-city relationship.

Cool. More at Desert Dispatch.
