West by Southwest — Hyperactive Music Festival

May 16, 2007

Albuquerque — music capitol of the Southwest. Has a nice ring to it, no?

Hyperactive Music Magazine
, an Albuquerque based publication with national circulation, is taking over Downtown in what could be Albuquerque’s biggest live music event ever — Hyperactive Music Festival and Conference 2007. Two days, two-hundred bands… that’s a hundred bands a day… oh, and all the shows are free — FREE can be had for a $10 wristband! I don’t care what you’re plans for the weekend are — change ’em. Come Downtown with me and a few thousand of my closest friends and bare witness to sonic theatrics for the ages! (Ok, so I’m a fan of hyperbole. Big deal.)

This is the second spin for what Hyperactive hopes will be an annual event. Bands from Australia to Mexico; the North Shore to Omaha will be blasting eardrums at eleven Downtown venues. In addition to the live music, Hyperactive is also holding a series of conferences at the Sunport Wyndham Hotel. Conference attendees will have to cough up $35 large, but that is a small price to pay for sage advice from record executives, media fixtures, and industry insiders.

So here is what I’m going to. Instead of giving you a run down of (what I think are) key performances to catch, I’m going to point you toward some Hyperactive spots on the interwebs:

This weekend should be great. Forget traveling to Austin for South By Southwest — Albuquerque has you covered… in the real Southwest — oh, snap.
