It’s gettin’ hot in here (and it isn’t the chile)

December 3, 2007

Congratulations, New Mexico Bowl. You’re the 25th hottest ticket in this year’s round of bowl games. Yup, out of 32 games, you’re coming in at the coveted 25 spot. Fan-freakin’-tastic.

Actually, 25 is a pretty sweet deal. 25th hottest ticket means we get a super affordable bowl game. I had a great time at last year’s inaugural bowl, and I’m glad the Lobos at 8-4 have an opportunity to play in front of their home crowd. Let’s try to actually win it this year, guys.

Now, I need a moment with the state tourism department. C’mon, now. New Mexico Bowl?! Yes, it cuts to the chase, but let’s try just a bit harder. Everyone and their freakin’ mother (mothers freak, right?) thought of the ‘Chile Bowl’ in two seconds flat. How hard is it to call the damn thing the ‘New Mexico Chile Bowl’? Let’s make some people happy and kill (a metaphoric killing, of course) two birds with one stone. Think about it and get back to me.

Agree 100%, the Chile Bowl…or even Chili Bowl (I know it’s 2 totally different things) would have a lot more name appeal. Hopefully the NMTB gets smart and changes the name.

Chile Bowl just makes sense. It’s gimmicky without going over the top. Chile isn’t our top crop, but it’s what people think of when they think of NM agriculture. I can’t imagine they’d have a hard time finding local sponsors for the Chile Bowl.
